Customer Needs
The customer, a manufacturer of buses and minibuses, needed to regulate certain vehicle component functions for a specific contract while complying with the final client's standards. The key requirements included:
- Extended power supply for specific components after vehicle shutdown for a predetermined period
- Optimized power management with relays and fuses, ensuring quick identification and troubleshooting of any anomalies or malfunctions
Proposed Solution
To address the customer's needs, Cosmic developed a solution focused on two key aspects:
Component Timing Management
Since the contract required different timing settings for various components, and the order volume was too small to justify pre-manufactured timers, Cosmic proposed and implemented the following solution:
- Customized timer programming directly at Cosmic, configuring them with the required settings
- Supply of pre-tested timers, ready for direct connection, eliminating the need for customer-side adjustments
Power Relay and Fuse Management
The customer initially favored a PCB board with removable automotive components and LED fault indicators. However, the required production time was incompatible with the contract’s delivery deadline. Therefore, an alternative solution was implemented using in-stock components:
- DIN rail-mounted fuse holders, readily available and easily integrated into the system
- Red LED indicators for blown fuses, ensuring quick and easy detection of faults and malfunctions
Results
Thanks to Cosmic’s rapid and flexible approach, the customer achieved:
- Pre-configured and tested timers, eliminating the need for manual adjustments
- A simple yet effective power management system, using standard components with immediate fault detection
- On-time delivery of the contract, without compromising functionality or reliability
