Customer Needs

The customer faced a significant number of critical situations during trailer and container maneuvering operations, both when entering and exiting ships and during handling in port areas. They required an effective solution to precisely monitor the maneuvering phases, particularly the rear of the trailers.
Key challenges included:

• The inability to adequately monitor the rear of the trailers
• Accidents caused by unauthorized personnel entering restricted areas, inattentive operators, or driver errors
• Material damage and safety risks for personnel

Case Analysis

The initial analysis revealed several considerations:

1. Lack of electrical connection – The trailers used did not have an electrical system to connect a camera or other monitoring devices.
2. Standard solutions were not applicable – The operational environment made it impractical to adopt predefined solutions, hindering the customer’s goal of enhancing safety during maneuvers.

Proposed Solution

Cosmic, in collaboration with LUIS, developed an innovative solution called the "LUISCO EDGE AI TRANSMITTER", consisting of:

• A self-powered and removable box – Equipped with a camera and magnets, allowing it to be easily transferred from one vehicle to another.
• Rear monitoring system – Designed to enhance safety during maneuvers, generating alerts in case of nearby personnel and reducing material damage risks

Applied Technologies

Results

Thanks to the implemented solution, the customer observed the following benefits during the testing and validation phase:

• Enhanced operator safety – A significant reduction in risks during maneuverse
• Easier operations – Improved management of handling activities

Proposed Improvements and Upgrades

During testing, additional operational needs emerged, which Cosmic addressed with upgrade proposals:

Lateral vision – Integration of two additional boxes to monitor the left and right sides, ensuring a 270° visual coverage around the vehicle and improved personnel recognition.

1. Dual monitor and receiver – Implementation of a system to manage images in both driving directions, with an intuitive control for switching views.
2. Data recorder – Integration of a system to store footage from the three removable cameras and a fourth fixed camera installed at the rear of the vehicle.
